When does the clinic start and end?
Patients are seen at the clinic starting the first morning and ending the day we leave.
When do volunteers arrive at the clinic?
Volunteers will arrive Tuesday evening.
When do the volunteers return home?
Volunteers depart the clinic Saturday afternoon, flying home on the following morning (travel options are found on the application).
What are the travel arrangements to and from the clinic?
The group travel option will be either a Houston to Chihuahua City or Dallas to Chihuahua City flight, with ground transportation from the Chihuahua City airport to the clinic.
As always, if you are coming from somewhere other than Houston, or just want to make your own travel arrangements, that’s fine.
When is the deadline to turn in an application?
Friday July 30th is when volunteer applications must be turned in.
What is the cost to volunteer?.
Each volunteer is responsible for paying their own way, or finding a sponsor, to participate in the clinic.
Provided you register by the deadline, the cost ranges from $250 to $900 depending on travel and lodging options (see application for details and options). However, for most people who stay the full week, the cost is about $700 which includes round trip air from Houston, transportation to the clinic, lodging, meals and a clinic shirt.
Registering past the deadline may cause a volunteer to incur incremental costs due to fare changes by the airline.
Do the volunteer fees cover the whole cost of the clinic?
Volunteer fees DO NOT cover the total cost of producing the medical mission
Costs are also incurred for medical equipment and supplies, Mexican support, patient assistance, freight, legal, communication and administration of the clinic. The volunteer fees also do not cover the costs of adult beverages.
Non-refundable deposit is required with application
A $100 deposit is required with the application to attend the clinic. In some areas, we receive more offers to attend a clinic than we have space or need. Therefore, we cannot accept everyone who applies.
We will return your deposit if you are not selected for the clinic. If you are selected for the mission trip and you elect to drop out, your $100 deposit will be forfeit.
Where people stay
Most team members stay at a local motel ($20/night shared, $40/single). These rooms have multiple beds in each suite. If you have a roommate preference please let us know.
“Home hospitality”is also available where you can be a house guest of some of the locals. This option is available at no charge.
Sometimes we have an extra hotel charge on the trip back to Chihuahua (usually $20). This will be noted on the application if it applies to your clinic.
Also, an individual meal cost ($10 range) may be incurred in traveling to or from Guerrero.
Clinic shirts and Caps
Please provide the sizes and quantities of each item desired. Costs for each item are found on the application. We suggest that purchasing a clinic shirt and travelling with the group may facilitate your trip across the border.
How do we pay?
We have two methods of payment - Pay Pay via our web site or by Check, Please make checks out to the Crystal Foundation. Please be sure that the check has the name and information in the memo area so we can give credit to the right person. Many times company or club checks arrive with no information as to whom to give credit.
